Benefits of CBD for horses

Cbd for horses

CBD for horses is attracting a lot of attention due to scientific trials that has linked CBD oil and hemp pellets to various health benefits. CBD oil and hemp pellets enable horses to benefit from the healing powers of cannabis without the psychoactive effects of THC. It is both a safe and effective remedy for horses.

Horses can be prone to various ailments. Some diseases and injuries may require more traditional medical procedures, however natural remedies like CBD have been found to be beneficial for some chronic ailments and illnesses.

CBD has become increasingly popular for horses, especially those who are prone to joint problems, lameness, and anxiety. Independent trials conducted by Equine Veterinarians have suggested that horses treated with CBD hemp pellets had detectable health benefits, which included reduced anxiety, improved mobility, and reduced pain.

Inflammation and joint pain:

Horses commonly experience inflammation and pain in their joints. Just the weight of the body is sufficient to strain the connective tissue and joints. CBD can provide relief for arthritis, joint stiffness, as well as general aches and pains.

Chronic Lamintis:

According to the American Association of Equine Practitioners, “Laminitis results from the disruption . . . of blood flow to the sensitive and insensitive laminae. These laminae structures within the foot secure the coffin bone (the wedge-shaped bone within the foot) to the hoof wall. Inflammation often permanently weakens the laminae and interferes with the wall/bone bond. In severe cases, the bone and the hoof wall can separate.” Among other causes, laminitis relates to aging, digestive issues, and severe colic.

Anxiety:

When traveling does your horse appear anxious? If so, CBD oil can help reduce the anxiousness and stress. Your horse will be calmer and happier.

Digestive health:

If your horse has digestive problems, you may want to try CBD. CBD has been proven to help alleviate indigestion and ulcer symptoms by reducing inflammation in the digestive system.

Stall Rest:

Weeks of idleness can make your horse aggressive or anxious. CBD has been shown to counteract the effects of being in a stall for extended periods of time.

Dosage:

A general dosage guideline would be up to 25mg per day to boost general health, up to 80 mg per day to ease anxiety and 100-200mg per day to alleviate chronic pain. Dosages are dependent on the height and weight of the horse.  Always speak to your veterinarian before use.
